WordPress in the Workplace

I was surprised today. I was sitting in on an interview when the man sitting across from me said “Oh, I love WordPress.”

As all of you know by now, I am excitable. I got excited and geeked out about it for about thirty seconds before I recognized a vaguely deer-in-the-headlights look.

A familiar look, but only vaguely there. I am sure he was a WP expert, but I’m also sure that I scared him.

How many of you work in a place where you primarily modify WP themes for your clients?

    Totally. That’s my primary job.

I initially created the theme for our company’s site from scratch. And now that it’s up, I do routine maintenance and improvements.

We run 2 WP sites (it use to be 5). In fact we’ve been such evangelists for WP that our parent company now has a handful of WP sites as well.

WP can do anything any other CMS can. Maybe not out of the box, but it thrives in customization.

And I feel that’s the secret, the “not out of the box” part. We’re always told that anyone can do a WP site, but in order to do it well you do have to have some knowledge.

Your site is beautiful, by the way. Sleek, well-designed. Good use of white space and really hip.
