You go back to it from time to time and think \u201cI\u2019ll leave that open so I remember to submit a talk\u201d. But with the deadline fast approaching \u2013 April 19th is closer than you think \u2013 you might need a little help getting past some blockers.<\/p>\n<p>Here are\u00a0some of the reasons we\u2019ve heard lately about why a talk hasn\u2019t been submitted.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>\u201cWhat if you reject the talk I send in?\u201d<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>It\u2019s true that submitting a talk opens you up to the possibility of rejection. However, to trot out a bit of sports talk, you miss 100% of the shots you never take. Think of it as a way to figure out how to make your talk even better\u00a0rather than an indication that your talk is all horrible.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>\u201cI don\u2019t have anything I could talk about.\u201d<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Sure you do. Not all the talks at WordCamps are strictly instructional. Most conferences, and WordCamps especially have a mix of many presentation types. Instructional, inspirational, test cases, and panel discussions. Submit what you have and see the diversity thrive!<\/p>\n<h5>\u201cWhat if people ask questions that I don\u2019t know the answers to?\u201d<\/h5>\n<p>First, you\u2019d be surprised by the amount of information you have in your brain.\u00a0Second, so what if they do? The only way for us to learn and grow is to become exposed to things we didn\u2019t know before. I\u2019d like to direct you to this fabulous Sesame Street video about \u201c<a title=\"The Power of Yet\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=XLeUvZvuvAs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Power of Yet<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<h5>But the bottom line is this\u2026<\/h5>\n<p>WordCamps are filled with some of the most awesome speakers, yes, but they also have some of the most awesome attendees.\u00a0People with all levels of experience and learning attend them to meet like-minded folks, continue their own education, or embark on their new journey to loving WordPress.<\/p>\n<p>And I ask you this.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/2019.kansascity.wordcamp.org\/call-for-speakers\/\">If you don\u2019t do it, then who will<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>(Written by Josepha Haden in 2015)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019re anything like me, then you\u2019ve been sitting with that Call for Speakers form open in a tab for at least a day.
